We are a Body of Water

Make yourself comfortable,
find your stillness.
Let your eyelids close,
and relax your body and mind.
Find your natural breath,
and just flow with it.
Let your body guide you
through the paths of water.
Is it flowing in your mouth?
Is it transpiring on your skin?
Is it pulsing in your heart?
Is it holding your shape?
Can you feel the water
in the air you breathe?
What is the taste of moisture?
Does your blood become mist?
Are you mixed in the clouds,
flying with the rivers in the sky?
Can you smell the humid soil?
Feel the groundwater
supporting your steps?
Can you hear the murmuring of
rivers, drops, ponds, falls, waves?
For KERB 32, we recreated in text format the walk we developed with Professor N'arwee't Carolyn Briggs AM and Troy Innocent for Melbourne Design Week in 2023, which also originated PRAXZINE#1.
"The walk, entitled “Regenerating a body of water: a walk with Birrarung-ga”, unfolded for the first time in May of 2023 through a section of the Birrarrung. This essay shares some of the moments of this journey -like the water meditation you read before- where participants found watery companions to learn with and look after as we walked through sites to dissect layers of Indigenous and colonial history that have shaped the river and its waterscape."
In this blog post, we share some photos and a video filmed that day. The walk has happened a couple of times - keep an eye on our social media and blog if you wanna walk with us next time!
